Dr. Robert Min, Chairman Department of Radiology |
|
We offer a full array of diagnostic and interventional radiology procedures. These services are currently provided at several sites including:
Providing the best patient care requires constant equipment modernization and maintaining a state-of-the-art environment. The Department of Radiology at Weill Cornell has a long history of leadership in innovation and in the development of new technologies. In the 1980's our department become the first MRI demonstration site in New York and ours was one of the first Hospitals to explore Computerized Radiography. NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell was an early adaptor of the film-less revolution when, in 1995, we were one of the first Hospitals to install a Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS); we will be upgrading to the third-generation PACS system in late 2006. Some more recent highlights include installation of a 64-slice CT scanner and MRI upgrades allowing NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell to offer the most current cardiac imaging. Expansion of digital mammography at Weill Cornell Medical Imaging at 61st Street in early 2006 offers the hope of both improved diagnostic capability and improved access to breast imaging. A new MRI center at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell will have facilities designed to better meet the special needs of our pediatric population. An Outpatient Imaging Center will be housed in the new Ambulatory Care and Medical Education Building at 70th Street and York Avenue, which is scheduled to open in early 2007. This facility will significantly expand our capacity to provide comprehensive state-of-the-art imaging in an environment focused on delivering outstanding service to our patients.
Our dedication to obtaining the most modern imaging equipment is matched by the Department's success in recruiting and retaining the top physicians and support staff in order to best utilize these exciting tools. Amazing technological advancements, offering the promise of improved care at lower cost and decreased risk, continue to fuel the demand for non-invasive imaging and minimally invasive image-guided therapies. Two new sections of Musculoskeletal & Emergency Radiology and Non-invasive Cardiovascular Imaging were formed in response to increased specialization and demand in these growth areas. These complement our already strong existing Sections of Abdominal Imaging, Chest Imaging, Neuroradiology, Nuclear Medicine, Pediatric Radiology, Women's Imaging, Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology, and Interventional Neuroradiology.
Research performed by investigators in the Department of Radiology has led to advancements in both diagnostic imaging, including Magnetic Resonance Angiography, Diffusion Tensor Brain Imaging, Lung Cancer Screening, and Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy, and in image-guided therapies such as Endovenous Laser Treatment and MR-guided Focused Ultrasound.
The missions of the Department of Radiology at Weill Cornell are to provide superior diagnostic imaging and interpretation; educate residents, fellows, and medical students; foster research in our discipline; and perform image-guided procedures with unparalleled service to our patients and referring physicians. We hope our web site assists you in learning about what our Department has to offer in patient care, education, and research.
Sincerely,
Robert J. Min, MD, MBA
